Sony Ericsson C905

Sony Ericsson C905Since Apple unveiled its iPhone, competition between major mobile phone manufacturers has reached new heights. Although the iPhone doesn’t have advanced photo features, it’s still taken a huge share of the market.

Elsewhere, Sony Ericsson started to face even greater competition when Nokia revealed its N95 and N82 which are currently the best when it comes to photo or video. So, it was obvious that Sony Ericsson would have to present a new camera-phone in order to survive against Nokia’s N series. That phone is already out and it’s called the C905.

It looks like the K850i and is a slider. As the first 8.1 megapixel camera, the C905 has a lot going for it, but megapixels aren’t all that it offers. Here’s what GIZMODO reports.

There’s a 8.1-megapixel camera with “auto focus, face recognition, a new feature called Smart Contrast, image stabilization, BestPic, red-eye reduction, xenon flash as well as photoflash for both photos and videos.” There’s also location tagging with GPS, an accelerometer, 2.4-inch QVGA display, TV-out, Wi-Fi, DLNA support, Bluetooth and USB 2.0 transfers.

Sony Ericsson considers the C905 as an alternative to a standard camera as the maximum image resolution of 3264 x 2448 pixels is not a joke. On the other hand according to GSMAena, the C905 still can’t offer competitive video recording.

As far as video is concerned, the C905 is still not capable of competing with the market leaders in this respect. The C905 maxes out at QVGA resolution at 30 fps. That is enough for an enjoyable video but there’s still a lot to be desired from a high-end cameraphone.

Competition often produces miracles and works wonders so let’s see how Nokia responds to the C905. Enjoy the video.

ITC One: All In One Entertaining System

ITC OneWith technology developing, the need for multi-tasking devices is rising, especially as more and more devices are the combination of various systems. On the other hand, until recently, there wasn’t a fully integrated entertainment system, but at CES2008, SE2 Labs was the first to offer one.

The box that you see in the picture hides so many gadgets that it’s unlikely anyone could guess the complete list of features. SE2 Labs did a decent job and managed to combine everything and offers a top quality product. Below is the list of included gadgets reported by Smarter Gadgets Blog

Vidikron Video Processor
Bryston™ Digital Surround Processor
ICEpower Hight End D-Class Amplifier
Netlinx® Control System
Transparent Cable Power Conditioning
Microsoft X-Box 360
Apple Ipod video dock
HD DVR from DirecTV®, Dish®, or Comcast®
SE2 RF System Remote Control
Super Quiet Cooling System
4.3″ Front Touch Screen
Anti Noise and Vibration system
Super Easy 2 Connect Rear Panel
Transparent Cable Harness
Apple TV® (optional)
Blu-Ray Drive (optional)
Nintendo® Wii™ (optional)

Everything seems very impressive indeed, but the price tag also reflects that. At $25,000, it’s not likely to sell to a mass market. On the other hand, the main key here is not the price, but the fact that such systems will later drop in price when they become more visible in the marketplace.

Here’s what the official website of SE2 Labs reports.

Designed to simplify and personalize the installation and enjoyment of high-end home theater systems, SE2 Labs has integrated a variety of best in breed components, including a high-def player, audio, video, gaming, control devices, cooling system and more into a single, compact box. The system is even available with displays, speakers and other peripherals for a complete home entertainment setup.

Motorola Rokr E8: Best of CES Award

Motorola E8The Motorola Rokr E8 is a phone that many people were waiting for and with good reason. During CES 2008 it received the Best of CES award in the smartphones category and that’s quite a victory for Motorola.

What makes the phone standout is that it’s the first music phone by Motorola which features a 2.0” QVGA 240×320 262K color TFT display, 2.0 mega pixel camera, 3.5mm stereo headset jack, Bluetooth (A2DP), USB 2.0 and MOTOMAGX a.k.a Linux-Java as the OS platform. It looks really stylish and is comfortable in hands, but one of the best things is its keypad which Motorola calls the Haptics Keypad.

Here’s what Phone Lover reports.

It gives better feel when pressing the button. When your phone is on normal mode, the keypad will show the digits with the white color backlight on. While if you’re on music player, the backlight will only show the necessary keys eg: play, pause, forward and backward. In the middle of the phone, there is a fastScroll navigation wheel that allows for scrolling through songs, contact and image library with the slide of a thumb. So user friendly for a music phone.

An interesting feature of the Rokr E8 has is its airplane-mode that allows you to listen music when you are pretty high in the airplane. Moreover you can listen to music even without the SIM card inserted, so it’s also a stand-alone mp3 player as well. Here’s what Mobile88 thinks about the phone.

We can say that the E8 is a really good music phone. We have 2GBs of storage inside the phone and an option to increase this with memory cards. The phone itself is sleek and has the audio jack on the top of the phone.

CES 2008: Philips Eco TV

Philips Eco TVEco-friendly solutions are becoming more and more popular these days and the CES 2008 is one of the places where green electronics are being presented. One of those products was Philips’ Eco TV which has many power-saving features to make it the first eco-friendly TV in the world.

Compared with other LCD’s it uses 30 watts less power, but sports a 42″ flat-panel screen with a resolution of 1080p. It will cost around $1300 and supports HDTV. According to Gadget and Gizmos it boasts good picture quality as well.

The Philips Eco TV doesn’t sacrifice in quality, either. The 42 inch HD display shows crisp images and using one of the eco features will actually improve the display even further in dim lighting sequences.

On the other hand CNET reports that Philips didn’t include some of its high-end features.

The 42PFL5630D lacks the company’s patented Ambilight technology, which is actually another power-saving perk since those lights draw more juice. It also lacks the high-end features such as the 120Hz technology found on its more-expensive brethren–this is strictly a mass-market TV, and one that should be more satisfying to environmentalists than any large-screen flat-panel we’ve seen so far.

Watch the video below from CES 2008.

Solio: Advanced Solar Charger for $90

SOLIOThe number of people who want to use “green” gadgets is increasing and that’s why various gadget manufacturers are responding to demand by offering new solutions. One such green device is Solio, probably the most advanced hybrid solar charger in the world. It’s hybrid because besides using power from sun it accepts energy from the wall socket as well.

That’s pretty useful because the sun doesn’t always shine so the hybrid nature of its design is one of the advantages over its competitors. Like other solar chargers, Solio covers almost all known handheld electronic products like the Apple iPod, iPod Mini, iPod Nano, PDA, GPS, game players, digital cameras, and cellphones. A fully charged Solio will be enough for charging a typical mobile phone twice or allowing over 20 hours of MP3 music.

With Solio you’ll not need to carry different cables and adapters, and will be able to enjoy using your hand held devices whenever and wherever you want, day and night. On the other hand besides being a useful device for travelers, it’s good step to contributing to a greener environment. As its inexpensive then with enough users it could significantly cut the the amount of electricity used.

Here’s what TreeHugger reports.

The CO2 emissions from energy used to make your Solio have been offset through a treeplanting program, like GreenFleet (the one we mentioned for cars). And the precious metals required for the circuitry were purposely not sourced from the African Congo due to unethical labour practices. Built with recycled and recyclable materials.

Gizmag reports how portable is it.

Unlike some more obtrusive portable chargers, Solio’s award winning fan blade design allows it to be folded neatly to the size of a small mobile phone. This means Solio is highly portable, making it the perfect travel partner wherever you’re going.

Watch the video below to see how cool the Solio is.

Wal-Mart Offers Blue-ray Players At $298

Blue-Ray PlayerDVD is slowly starting to give up its position in the audio-visual market to Blu-ray, and at some point they’ll be relegated to the past as were the CDs which preceded them. Although there is also the HD-DVD, it can’t compete with Blu-ray.

Dual-layer Blu-ray disc can store up to 50Gb of data which is almost six times the capacity of a dual-layer DVD. Such a huge capacity allows for the storage of very high-quality movies and currently there are around 1,000 titles available on Blu-ray. The trouble is that the price for Blue-ray players has been prohibitive for many consumers.

A Sony or Panasonic player, for example, will cost around $400, but that might all change as TVPredictions reports.

According to the web site, Blu-ray.com, $298 Blu-ray players are showing up on shelves of certain Wal-Mart stores under brand names such as Magnavox and Sylvania.

However, the players apparently are coming from manufacturer Funai, which has been rumored for months to be working on a low-cost Blu-ray player.

It’s obvious that you can’t expect the same quality as a Sony poduct from the likes of Funai, but on the other hand it’s possible that Funai’s strategy will force other manufacturers to reduce their prices in order to compete. This should certainly popularize the format, and even classic films are starting to appear on Blue-ray.

High-Def Digest reports the first lits of movies.

‘The Third Man,’ ‘Bottle Rocket,’ ‘Chungking Express,’ ‘The Man Who Fell to Earth,’ ‘El Norte,’ ‘The 400 Blows,’ ‘Gimme Shelter,’ ‘The Complete Monterey Pop,’ ‘Contempt,’ ‘Walkabout,’ ‘For All Mankind,’ ‘The Wages of Fear,’ and both stand-alone and deluxe box set editions of ‘The Last Emperor.’
